SWO Meth Prevention Program

Helping Each Other Up...One Hand at a Time...

We need your help to make our community drug free. We cannot do it alone. Please get involved.

Welcome to the Meth Prevention webpage of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, serving northeast South Dakota and surrounding communities.

Yes, METH is in our community! It is a highly addictive drug that affects not the only user but also the user’s family and the extended family. Giving up an addiction is never easy. There are organizations that can help. The first step is to admit that there is a problem and make a plan on what to do and when.

It’s important for the family of the addict to know what is going on and to be patient and supportive. Sometimes it may take several tries before the addict can begin to feel that they are beating the addiction but that is what being a family or friend is about...being there and caring for those you love. One of the most important messages we can send to the meth addict is HOPE. There is hope for recovery.

Educate yourself – the most effective weapon in the war on drugs is education.

Be alert – Look for signs of drug use and drug dealing where you live.

Take action – Speak out on the dangers of meth, encourage family & friends to do the same. Encourage loved ones struggling with drug addictions to get help.

“The crystalline white drug quickly seduces those who snort, smoke or inject it with a euphoric rush of confidence, hyper alertness and sexiness that lasts for hours on end. And then it starts destroying lives." — David J. Jefferson, " America 's Most Dangerous Drug".
